Klis Fortress rises on a bare cliff and divides into two parts. The western part is lower and from the north it is surmounted by the ridge hill, while the eastern part is higher and the round tower Oprah stands out on it, the most important medieval stronghold of the fortress. The only entrance to the fortress was on the west side. On the southwest side of the fort and below it stretched the Klis suburb, surrounded by double walls with 100 to 200 houses. A smaller settlement also expanded towards Greben, on a plateau called Megdan. In Turkish times, infirmaries and quarantines were built there, as well as accommodation for passers-by. Near the fort there were several sources of drinking water, and the nearest was the spring of the Holy Three Kings whose importance was invaluable for long sieges.
